Globalism vs. Ethnonationalism

By Patrick J. Buchanan

Standing before the Siegessaule, the Victory Column that commemorates Prussia’s triumphs over Denmark, Austria and France in the wars that birthed the Second Reich, Barack Obama declared himself a “citizen of the world” and spoke of “a world that stands as one.”

Globalists rejoiced. And the election of this son of a white teenager from Kansas and a black academic from Kenya is said to have ushered us into the new “post-racial” age.

Are we deluding ourselves? Worldwide, the mightiest force of the 20th century, ethnonationalism — that creator and destroyer of nations and empires; that enduring drive of peoples for a nation-state where their faith and culture is dominant and their race or tribe is supreme — seems more manifest than ever.

“Vote Reflects Racial Divide” ran the banner in The Washington Times over Tuesday’s story datelined, “Santa Cruz, Bolivia.” It began:

“The Bolivian vote to approve a new constitution backed by leftist President Evo Morales reflected racial divisions between the nation’s Indian majority and those with European ancestry.”

Provinces where mestizo and Europeans predominate voted down the constitution. But it carried with huge majorities the Indian tribes of the western highlands, for this constitution is about group rights.

In 2005, Morales came to office resolved to redistribute wealth and power away from Europeans to his own Aymara tribe and other “indigenous peoples” he contends were robbed by the Europeans who began to arrive 500 years ago, in the time of Columbus.

Pizarro’s victory over the Incan Empire is to be overturned.

According to Article 190 of the new constitution, Bolivia’s 36 Indian areas are authorized to “exercise their jurisdictional functions through their own principles, values, culture, norms and procedures.”

Tribal law is to become provincial law, and national law.

Gov. Mario Cossio of Tarija, which voted no, says the new constitution will create a “totalitarian regime,” controlled through an “ethnically based bureaucracy.” To which Morales replies, “Original Bolivians who have been here for a thousand years are many but poor. Recently arrived Bolivians are few but rich.”

Bolivia is Balkanizing, dividing up and being divided on the lines of tribe, race and class. And, hailed by Hugo Chavez, Morales’ Bolivia is not the only place where the claims of ethnicity, tribe and race are conquering the forces of universalism and globalism.

After a disputed election in Kenya, the Kikyu were subjected to ethnic cleansing and massacres by Luo. In Zimbabwe, white farmers are being dispossessed due to their ancestry. In Sri Lanka, the Tamil rebellion against the ruling Sinhalese — to create a Tamil nation, a war that has cost tens of thousands of lives — appears lost, for now.

In Vladimir Putin’s time, Russians have crushed Chechens, confronted Estonians over Russian military graves and war memorials, collided with Ukrainians over the Crimea and bloodied up the Georgians.

Beijing crushes the Uighurs who want their own East Turkestan and Tibetans who seek autonomy, flooding both lands with Han Chinese.

In Europe, populist anti-immigrant parties, alarmed at a loss of national identities, are striding toward respectability and power. The Vlaams Belang, seeking independence for Flanders, is the biggest party in the Belgian parliament. The Peoples Party and Freedom Party are now Austria’s second and third most popular. The Swiss People’s Party of Christoph Blocher is the largest in Bern. In France, the National Front humiliated the government this week, winning over half the vote in a suburb of Marseilles.

All are unabashedly ethnonationalist. Writes British diplomat Sir Christopher Meyer, “It is useless to say that nationalism and ethnic tribalism have no place in the international relations of the 21st century.”

Meanwhile, global institutions, the United Nations, IMF and European Union, have lost their luster. Czechs — whose president, Vaclav Klaus, regards the EU as a prison house of nations — hold the EU presidency. When the financial crisis hit, Irish, Brits and Germans rushed to bail out their own banks, as did Americans, who rescued Ford, Chrysler and GM, leaving Toyota, Hyundai and Honda twisting in the wind.

This is economic nationalism.

Inside Ehud Olmert’s cabinet, a rising star is Avigdor Lieberman. What Lieberman’s “merry men” advocate, writes the American Prospect, is “ethnic cleansing: As the creepy name (which translates into ‘Our Home Is Israel’) suggests, Yisrael Beiteinu believes the million-plus Arab citizens of Israel must be expelled.”

Barack won the African-American vote 97 percent to 3 percent over John McCain, and 90 percent to 10 percent over Hillary Clinton in the later primaries. McCain ran stronger than George W. Bush only in Appalachia, the laager of the Scots-Irish.

In Jerry Z. Muller’s “Us and Them: The Enduring Power of Ethnic Nationalism,” in Foreign Affairs, his thesis is summarized:

“Americans generally belittle the role of ethnic nationalism in politics. But … it corresponds to some enduring propensities of the human spirit. It is galvanized by modernization, and … it will drive global politics for generations to come. Once ethnic nationalism has captured the imagination of groups in a multiethnic society, ethnic disaggregation or partition is often the least bad answer.”

Disaggregation or partition, the man said.

Are we really in a post-racial America, or is our multicultural multiethnic America, too, destined for Balkanization and break-up?

    MARKET EARTH.

Politics is quite simple, its like a market, you set out your stall with your goods, and people either buy or do not buy.

They look at the price, quality, use, and shelf life.

If they do not see what they want, they move onto the next stall.

There are extremist stalls, racist stalls, community stalls, and wacko stalls.

Its your choice in the market, and if you choose badly, there is always next time.

Today people are queueing at the global stall.

  • Actually they queue at their own nationalist stalls while the West queues at the global stall. The end result has been and continues to be trade agreements not in our best interest.

Modern globalization really began in the 16th century and we eventually came to dominate about 80% of it. It was when we fully committed ourselves to the current unfair “free” trade model that our share of the global economy shrunk to approximately 20%.

A key impetus for this postmodern boom in enthno-nationalism is as reaction to force-fed multiculturalism, itself the product of interests and factions universally antagonistic to the societies they seek to “diversify”. Whether here or in Europe, “just folks” unemcumbered by trendy groupthink see through the mealy-mouthed smokescreen and see the destructive impulse behind flooding a country with wildly different cultures resistant to assimilation – and overtly hostile to their surrounding hosts.

    Ladies and Germs,
The Economy, it’s the economy. Much of what we are speaking to would go away if we had an economy that was running on all four wheels and eight cylinders. This kind of racial rhetoric runs the risk of seeming irrelevancy. Why bother, it is what it is.
In the meantime we have a degenerate elite running the country into the ground. I don’t think anyone can state truly or fully just what this country and its’ population will face in the coming months ahead.
I implore your focus on this crisis.

    Sky,
They have already introduced a reparations bill in Obama’s term? Did not take them long. The reasons blacks are so powerful now politically is because they NEVER split the vote. 93% voted for Obama. If you ran a white and a black against each other in any Congressional District in America, the black would get 90+% of the black vote, and about 30% of whites, at least, would cross over. The whole history of blacks in America has been defined by their race…first black this…first black that…WE shall overcome…and Congressional Black Caucus. Whites have never felt a threat. When they wake-up, it will be too late and any hope of regaining power will be gone. I look for whites to be exterminated in death camps ran by non-whites in about 3 generations. Again…a zero sum game. Whites must realize that all non-whites HATE THEM and want revenge for hundreds of years of white domination.

-OK, I’ll bite. If you think it’s all because of the economy, what’s your explanation of why all the groundwork for a one world order was even being laid down when the economy was doing great? I would suggest that the economic crisis is part of the plan to kill the dollar, renegotiate our debt, so they can introduce a new North American currency called the Amero. Problem solved. That’s why they don’t care about how much the bailout costs. Just watch.
Second, you say “racial rhetoric runs the risk of seeming irrelevancy.”
How can a ‘white’ focus on the economy when we are not invited or wanted the table anymore…

Robert Reich (economic adviser to President Obama): “I am concerned, as I’m sure many of you are, that these jobs not simply go to high skilled people who are already professionals or to white male construction workers”

This is just the beginning. I would say that it would be masochistic to ignore the deliberate attempt to push whites to the back of the bus. As the reality of this becomes more evident, whites will start looking for someone to help them. Too little to late. The internet and media will be totally controlled by then (1-2years), and we will not be able to have a discussion like this. Similar to Canada & GB because of the new hate speech laws. It will be too little to late.

    Cking,

Oh the economy is a big part of it. Under Clinton, loan companies were pressured to give high risk home loans to minorities and now the housing market has crashed. All this affirmative action designed to equal the playing field does not not take one thing into account…the playing field has always been level. If you work hard in this country you can make it no matter what your race. But whites in positions of power who live in gated communities in suburbia have a guilt complex and continue to commit cultural suicide by voting for phonies like Obama. Those that are living in fantasyland are not the realist like me, who see the writing on the wall. Its the Daschale’s and the Clinton’s who think their grandkids will be spared when the deluge comes. Look how whites have been treated in Zimbabwe or former South Africa. This goes all the way back in our history. Its why whites in the South attempted to expain to abolitionist in the North: “We have counties and parishes where whites are outnumbered 3-1 by slaves…what do you nuts think is going to happen if we let them go?” Thus the Jim Crow laws after Reconstruction so whites could protect themselves. But, revenge by blacks looms on the horizon. The solid South…will soon be Democrat Party stronghold when blacks outnumber whites. They can have as many new voters as they can breed and white taxpayers will have to feed, shelter, and clothe them until they are destroyed by those they are forced to support.

Why Torch Martin Luther?: “Daahhh…in dunno…”

REF: “BERLIN – Russian President Vladimir Putin told a German newspaper that Allied forces can’t be absolved of blame for horrors during World War II, and he noted in particular the massive bombing of Dresden in the final months.

Ahead of this weekend’s 60-year commemoration of Victory in Europe Day, Putin, in a joint interview with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, told Bild that the Western forces deserved to be criticized for attacking civilians.

“The Western allies didn’t abound with any special humanity,” the Russian leader said. “It’s incomprehensible to me to this day why Dresden was destroyed. There was no military reason for it.”

“THANK GOD I’M NOT A FREE TRADER”

Teddy Roosevelt’s statement to Henry Cabott Lodge over 100 years ago! Where is our greatist american president when we desperatly need him. We also need him to break up all the monopolys that have a stranglehold on middle class working americans and small business.
But look what we got, a black LBJ, to drive the final nails in the coffin of the greatest country ever.
With what I have read of this new and improved amnesty bill we may have been better off passing the last one! If it does pass we may damn well see a much overdue revolt of we the people.

  • That’s right kurt. Shamnesty hurts all ofus. If there’s anyone here who hasn’t yet joined Numbers USA, please go to http://www.numbersusa.com/content/ and do so now. Check your ACTION BUFFET regularly. They have made it so easy to participate in real immigration reform it’s almost a sin not to. Thank you for doing this. Your country thanks you. We all thank you.

An excellent article, and one that every so-called “globalist,” or “world citizen,” wannabe should read and remember.

Tip O’Neil famously quipped that all politics is local. He could have been speaking of nationalism as well. When it comes right down to it, isn’t that what nationalism really is? Looking local, as opposed to international, taking care of ones own group first, looking out for those that are just like the rest of us, etc.

Some say nationalism is a dangerous thing to play with, and at times those people may indeed be right. “Greater Serbia,” “Deutschland Uber Alles,” Turkey/Armenia, Sudan/Darfur Cambodia and Rwanda are thoughts that come to ones mind when one thinks of nationalism taken to its extremes.

However, in the here and now, nationalism is, in this writers opinion, a much needed tonic to the “Medicine,” called globalization that is being force fed to the world at large. And let’s call globalization for it really is, a “One World Government,” that our political, cultural and business elites have in store for (They just cannot get over that Tower of Babel thing, can they?), we the unwashed masses who don’t know what’s good for them.

Instead of going “Baa, Baa, Baa,” as our own leaders (Women and men that “We the People,” freely voted in and continue to believe in, their views and track records to the contrary), lead us into a world horror chamber where a paper thin veneer of internationalist elites, having no loyalty to state, ethnic group, country or culture, lord over the rest of us (Can anyone say a giant, world wide Haiti or Philippines here), lower ALL of our standards of living, exploit working people of all levels, pollute the environment, tamper with the food supply chains with their genetically engineered products, push harmful, tainted foods (As opposed to ones that provide nourishment), filled with lead, melamine, rat poison and who knows what else, and pharmaceutical concoctions where the side effects of the medications will kill you faster than the actual disease, all the while smiling telling us “We’re looking out for you,” and, “Isn’t this a wonderful world?”

I have to say that it’s somewhat comforting to know that “Nationalism,” in its more benign forms, is still alive and well and will prove to be a major check on the “International,” political, business and cultural and elites who merrily and regularly meet at Davos, WTO and G-8 meetings, Bilderberger and Trilateral commission gatherings, shake hands, have their seminars and all slap themselves on the back as they pontificate on the so-called paradise they theorize “One World,” will be.

Nationalism is the recommended tonic (And perhaps rude awakening as well), to those kinds of people because after all, there are more of us than there are of them, and I don’t know too many people locally who are talking globally these days.

From The McLaughlin Group TV Show that aired January 9, 2009.

MR. MCLAUGHLIN: Let me ask you something else, and that’s about globalism. You heard me say with great discernment on this program at an earlier date that globalism is really the cause of this, that China and India cannot be taking American jobs in the fashion that they are without us paying the price. Therefore, trade negotiations have to be rewritten. The WTO has to be looked at and other trade formulations. You agree with that. You think globalism is the problem.

MR. BUCHANAN: I think globalism has been a horrendous problem in deindustrializing America to where we’re not creating things and making things. This stimulus package — when you send out money and people go down to the mall, they go to the car lots, half the cars will be Asian or Japanese or European. A lot of the goods will be foreign. The money’s going to be going abroad. Economic nationalism, John, in one of your rare predictions that may come true, is coming back dramatically.

MR. MCLAUGHLIN: Why don’t we renegotiate GATT? Why don’t we renegotiate the WTO?

MR. BUCHANAN: What you do is walk out of the WTO.
    ************************************************************
While studying Macro Economics in college, My Economics professor Dr. White hammered home the fact that ” Money is just a medium of exchange–REAL WEALTH is what a country produces.”

Sixteen years after Presidential Candidate Ross Perot in a Presidential debate with other candidates Bill Clinton and George Herbert Walker Bush made the statement: “If NAFTA is implemented, America will hear a LARGE SUCKING SOUND of good American jobs and industries leaving the country”

Then, after being elected Bill Clinton signed the NAFTA free trade agreement.

George “W” Bush expanded upon so-called “FREE TRADE” with CAFTA and many other agreements.

Now 16 years later, Americans find when they go to ANY store (not just WAL-MART), there are virtually no MADE IN USA products on the store shelves any longer.

The fact is that through these GLOBALIST so-called “FREE TRADE” policies of Neo-con Presidents Bill Clinton, and then George “W” Bush, America has outsourced almost the entire manufacturing base of the United States to countries like China, India and Mexico, so that large corporations could take advantage of cheap third world poverty level wage rates.

Unless the United States reverses these Globalist Policies and practices, backs out of NAFTA, GATT and the WTO, and implements Policies and Practices that bring back to the United States a real manufacturing base and real production of goods, the United States will continue its down hill slide toward a second Great Depression.

Thank You, Mr. Buchanan and Mr. McLaughlin, for pointing out the real reason for the Economic Turmoil we are experiencing, and the correct course of action to remedy the problem.
    ***************************************************************
Today, January 4, 2009 I heard on the Michael Savage radio show, an audio clip of Barack Hussein Obama making a statement that there should be nothing in his (socialist trillion dollar) spending bill which could be construed as protectionism against China.

He was refering a BUY AMERICAN provision in the bill which requires any company working on bill-funded American infastructure projects to use American Steel from American Steel Plants employing American Workers.

Word has it that liberal Neo-con Senator John McCain was responsible for pulling the provision from the bill.

This bill is a travisty, and it will further destroy the American Dollar and the American economy.

This is PROOF POSITIVE that Barack Hussein Obama is a GLOBALIST traitor, as is John McCain.

As an objective, or at least more so than NOT objective white person, I find it amusing to hear Pat call a vote for the first black President by 97% of black voter’s an example of ETHNONATIONALISM, a little rich considering that WHITE people have voted for WHITE candidates for office EVERYTIME since the signing of the Constitution, and now blacks see somebody who looks like them who can ‘DO THE DIRTY BIRD’ better than his white counterpart’s is somehow ethnonationalism??? I think NOT. . . I call it common sense and smarts!

Pat has completely missed the ETHNONATIONALIST threat here in the United States. We hear the Politically correct News Media and Politician’s use the term Hispanic used to describe them by, but that begs the question of where these people are actually from, but the latest southern invasion is not coming from Puerto Rico, Cuba, or South America. . . The INVASION is a Mexican invasion, Government official’s do not like to admit that and sure will not tell the American people this fact, but Mexico is where the Ethnonationalism is coming from in the United States today, for those of us in Texas and other’s in border States we have all heard about the grass roots nationalist desire to retake California and the Southwest via immigration and settlement’s. One need only look back to 2006 and the disturbing nationwide marches with protester’s carrying Mexican flags, and other Nationalist Mexican symbols as hardly what you might expect from “immigrants” coming to resettle for economic hardship reason’s with an abiding respect & love for their NEW NATION OF CHOICE! No, they were sticking a nationalist finger in the eye of any and everyone who calls themselves an American. . . . Smell the coffee Pat. But, the blacks??? Please! Haven’t they already punched their ticket, and a long time ago to boot??????? I’d say!

    A BIT MORE GLOBAL

The US Senate has voted to soften a controversial “Buy American” clause in an economic recovery package, after warnings it might spark a trade war.

The clause had sought to ensure only US iron, steel and manufactured goods were used in projects funded by the bill.

But senators approved an amendment requiring that provisions in the bill comply with international trade agreements with Canada and the EU.

Earlier President Barack Obama said the US should avoid seeming protectionist.

  • MikeVannozzi

The McCain amendment was just defeated in the Senate.
But the buy American clause was amended to include : “in compliance with international obligations”.

  • MikeVannozzi

I thought the whole point of this so-called “Bail Out ” legislation is to put Americans back to work.

This is a very clear indication of how these Globalist Free Trade agreements hurt Americans and send good American jobs overseas.

What is the point of burdening the American Taxpayer with this Huge TRILLION DOLLAR DEBT if American workers will not be the recipients of the jobs?

It is also clear that these Trade agreements are a serious threat to American Sovergnity.

  • Bluedog65

I’m thinking on writing a book titled, “Famous Half-Whites in American History.” All the major players being talked about during black history month are actually half-white. Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, and Barack Obama. First blacks? How about first “half-whites.”

  • Watcher

Ethnonationalism? The only true nations aren’t diverse or multi-racial/multi-cultural. The phony nations such as the U.S. are like the Star Wars Bar. They are not a nation at all. They’re Just a bunch of strangers in a bar.

  • Chris345678

    RE: Thomas

I agree with your argument. The UN only does what is good for the UN.

What I am talking about is not The UN or Globalism. It is the agonizing problem of the survival. The US is still strong and a leader in world affairs. Without manufacturing products we are still the worlds leader.

The mysterious elite that can not be pinned down are not at the fore. The US may be going through a change that is not driven by this elite?

The complexities of international affairs are probably beyond my learning. But somehow the US is changing for the worst. I do not like to watch it happening.

  • Thomas

None of this is so complicated that it defies understanding. Its very simple at its core. The goal of world government is what everything that is being foisted upon us leads to. The loss of Freedom, privacy, gun ownership, the Constitution, the Republic, states’ rights; “free trade”, illegal immigration, the Pan-American Union, the Texas corridor, the destruction of the economy and currency, eugenics, the Amero — all of it is designed to get us there. It is the stated mission of the TLC and FRC and Bilderberg Group.
