Next week when you respond to Eleanor please inform her that the 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with Hunting, it has to do with defending the Constitution of the United States of America from all enemies Foreign and Domestic. I don't have a constitutional right to go hunting, I have a constitutional right to bear Arms, preferable good enough to fight guys with assault rifles. For over 20 million veterans the AR-15 type rifle has and continues to be the Kentucky Rifle of the 21st Century. What they trained with, fought with, and choose to bear. What part of shall not be infringed don't you people understand?

You have always been a voice of reason and total honesty, Mr. Buchanan. I have such respect for your views about racism and about the Israeli lobby. Please do not be silent!

Huge fan. Some say you devised Nixon's southern strategy. If you covered this in one of your books I HAVE read it and forgot. A reference would suffice. How do you respond to those who say the southern strategy was racist? Thx for your time.

I waited all day to hear you speak at President Nixon's one-hundredth birthday party on January 9, 2013. You were utterly brilliant. Your historical evaluation of Mr. Nixon's career was the best I ever heard, and thank you for reminding everyone of his remarkable tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he already made history as a very young man. The best part of all was your Gatsby-esque summation of his Watergate-obsessed enemies: "They were a rotten crowd," I shouted across the lawn. "You're worth the whole damn bunch put together." Our greatest President made his wisest decision when he hired you. God bless you and Mrs. Buchanan forever, and thank you both for your service to our country.

Pat Buchanan is, bar none, my favorite political theorist, writer, and commentator still active today. His ability to turn even the loftiest of notions into a history lesson is without rival.

I've been following Pat Buchanan since I was a little kid. Literally, I'm 27-years-old and I can remember watching Crossfire with my father, a liberal. Buchanan is the reason I'm a conservative today.

The only honest reasoning for the second amendment is to assure the people the means to " throw off " their government.
No distinction was made as to the type or quantity of arms, nor to their lethality, nor suitability to the purpose of said arms to
the pursuit of sport or military preparedness. Any other interpretation of the second amendment trivializes it's sober
purpose.

This whole “he’s not supportive enough of Israel” litmus test is bogus. We are after all talking about someone whose supposed to represent American interests and to define those in terms of Israeli support seems to be very jaded thinking at best. And I’ve read what he said about Israel and wanting to talk to Iran and find no basis by which criticisms from the likes of William Kristol are validated.

Is this to be one of the new criteria going forward, that our Sec Def must hold first and deep loyalties to a foreign country? A foreign country which, along with the cadre of Neocons and the Israel Lobby are overtly trying to push America into another war in the Middle East. Didn’t the stupidity of engaging in the war in Iraq demonstrate the enormous costs and the very few if any benefits derived.

Please don\'t allow a small vocal minority to control the conversation regarding guns. I\'m told there are over 150 million gun owners in this country. Many need guns for personal protection, many are hunters, many enjoy shooting sports,many enjoy collecting.

Why should gun control even be considered? Yes it is unfortunate that children were killed but should 150 million law abiding, VOTING taxpayers be disenfranchised because of three nutjobs a year doing something stupid? There are also many thousands of crimes averted because of legally owned guns.

GOP Suggestions:
>Break up the big banks.
>Stigmatize the responsible individuals who use reversed McCarthyism
>Push the flat tax (Russia has some of the lowest debt in the world)
>Push inalienable rights
> And keep it simple stuipid

Dear Mr. Buchanan,
After reading your column on Chuck Hagel today I am sure my suspicions are correct. You are the most intelligent person in the Republican Party. I\'ve given up on it.

We need a third party, a Moderate Party, to get all the sane people in the middle to work together and get things done. Surely you must know some other intelligent people who can get such a party started. Thanks for being a voice of sanity in an increasingly insane world.

The White House, with GOP turncoats, will try to pass an amnesty very soon for the 25 million or so illegal aliens. We must fully mobilize right now to stop this.

Thank you so much for your article, "Anti-Christian age is bearing toxic fruit." Your comments are correct and need to be shared. It saddens me to read that, "in America, too, the decline of Christianity proceeds." May God raise up strong, outspoken young men and young women to carry on the cause of Christ!!

I just finished "Suicide of a Superpower." Although I am an atheist and am libertarian on social issues, I find myself sharing a lot of political ground with Buchanan. The most important issues to me as an American is ending internationalism (militarily and economically), leaving the UN, leaving free trade agreements like NAFTA, sealing the border with armed soldiers and a standing army, and abolishing all socialist programs and let capitalism do its job. Buchananites need to back like minded politicians in every election and hijack control of the GOP from the neocons and christian fundamentalists.

Just read your commentary re the above and I couldn't agree more. This isn't just about guns and mental illness, this about the decay of the whole moral fabric of our society and culture, and our country. Who are these creatures that create these violent games that we, yes that includes me, buy for our children; what are they thinking, or not thinking. Pat, I'm in the fourth quarter but I care deeply about my country and I feel like it's going down in ruins, especially after this last election. I wanted to fly my beautiful flag upside down I was so upset. Is all hope gone for us?
