An Amicus Brief for Neville

By Patrick J. Buchanan

On Sept. 30, 1938, 70 years ago, Neville Chamberlain visited Adolf Hitler’s apartment in Munich, got his signature on a three-sentence declaration and flew home to Heston Aerodrome.

“I’ve got it,” he shouted to Lord Halifax. “Here is a paper which bears his name.” At the request of George VI, Chamberlain was driven to Buckingham Palace, where he joined the king on the balcony to take the cheers of the throngs below. An unprecedented honor.

VIDEO: Congressman Ron Paul Remarks on the Bailout – Just Prior to the Vote

Dr. Paul gave a quick speech on the House floor this morning concerning the bailout. Due to the nature of the debate today, he didn’t have time to read his full remarks, which were put into the congressional record and are featured below:

The process of this bailout reminds me of a panic-stricken swimmer thrashing in the water only making his situation worse. Even a “bipartisan deal”—whatever that is supposed to mean— will not stop the Congress from thrashing about.

The beneficiaries of the corrupt monetary system of the last three decades are now desperately looking for victims to stick with the bill after they have reaped decades of profit and privilege.

Money Bomb Bob!

Brigade,  You asked me to keep you updated on latest polls, etc. for our conservative SC Senate candidate [and Ron Paul supporter], Bob Conley – here’s the latest:

As I reported last time, Bob was closing the gap with Neocon Lindsay Graham. I mentioned a private poll showing Bob at 40% — an increase of 8 points since an earlier report to you. Graham was unchanged at just over 50%.

Now I have really exciting news:

The latest Rasmussen poll of South Carolina’s U.S. Senate race shows Lindsey Graham holding at 50% of the vote, while Bob has shot up to 41% – He is now within 9 points of Graham!

Day of Reckoning

By Patrick J. Buchanan

How did the United States of America, the richest nation on earth, whose economy represents 30 percent of the Global Economy, arrive at the precipice of a financial panic and collapse?

The answer lies in the abject failure of both America’s financial elite and the political elite of both parties — the same elites now working together to determine how much of our wealth will be needed to bail the nation out of the crisis of their own creation.

No Amnesty For Wall Street

by Dr. Chuck Baldwin

Ed Note: Chuck Baldwin is a candidate for President of the United States on the Constitution Party ticket. This past week Congressman Ron Paul [R-TX] gave his endorsement to Chuck!

At the time of this writing, the U.S. House and Senate are poised to pass a $700 billion bailout to Wall Street. At the behest of President George W. Bush, the U.S. taxpayers are going to be on the hook for what can only be referred to as the biggest fraud in U.S. history.

VIDEO: Vietnam Veterans Against McCain

Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain was formed to dispel the myth of “Straight talkin’, principled, maverick war hero.” They expose McCain’s false heroism as a POW in the Vietnam conflict. The documentary “Missing, Presumed Dead the Search for America’s POWs” focuses on Senator John McCain successfully blocking the release of classified POW/MIA documents. Here is a DVD extra from that documentary. More info can be found at: vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com

Ron Paul: Bailouts Will Lead to Rough Economic Ride

By Ron Paul – Special to CNN

(CNN) — Many Americans today are asking themselves how the economy got to be in such a bad spot.

For years they thought the economy was booming, growth was up, job numbers and productivity were increasing. Yet now we find ourselves in what is shaping up to be one of the most severe economic downturns since the Great Depression.

Unfortunately, the government’s preferred solution to the crisis is the very thing that got us into this mess in the first place: government intervention.

An Amnesty for Stupidity

By Patrick J. Buchanan

Is it fair that businessmen who fail in neighborhood stores have to close shop and often sell their homes, while Wall Street titans are spared the consequences of monumental stupidity and greed?

No, it is not fair. Yet, Treasury’s Hank Paulson may be right. To save the sheep who might have been wiped out in a general financial panic, we may have to save the pigs.

Life is unfair, said JFK.

Yet, this is going to be the mother of all bailouts. Paulson will be voted by Congress authority to spend $700 billion, 5 percent of our gross domestic product, to buy all that toxic paper stinking up the books of our biggest banks.

Bailout Plan Talks Advance in Congress

By David M. Herszenhorn
The New York Times

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration and Congressional leaders moved closer to agreement on a historic $700 billion bailout for financial firms on Monday, including tight oversight of the program and new efforts to help homeowners at risk of foreclosure.

But lawmakers in both parties voiced anger over the steep cost and even skepticism about the plan’s chances of success.

As heated debate began on Capitol Hill, Congress and the administration remained at odds over the demands of some lawmakers, including limits on the pay of top executives whose firms seek help, and new authority to allow bankruptcy judges to reduce mortgage payments for borrowers facing foreclosure.

The Party’s Over

By Patrick J. Buchanan

The Crash of 2008, which is now wiping out trillions of dollars of our people’s wealth, is, like the Crash of 1929, likely to mark the end of one era and the onset of another.

The new era will see a more sober and much diminished America. The “Omnipower” and “Indispensable Nation” we heard about in all the hubris and braggadocio following our Cold War victory is history.

Seizing on the crisis, the left says we are witnessing the failure of market economics, a failure of conservatism.

We Can Have a “Pat Buchanan-Ron Paul” Senator in 2008

by Linda Muller – buchanan.org

Bob Conley is not publicly endorsing Obama. That’s his personal business, he said, adding that his dream ticket would be led by Pat Buchanan, with Ron Paul as vice president…

Brigade, I have written before about one of our own — conservative Democrat Bob Conley from South Carolina. He’s running for the U.S. Senate seat held by neocon Lindsey Graham.

Bob is closing the gap with Graham. A private poll shows Bob at 40% — an increase of 8 points since I last wrote about him. Graham remains unchanged at just over 50%. Bob can win this race.

Maternal Flame: Sarah Palin’s Family-Friendly Appeal

Sarah Palin FamilyBy Steve Sailer
The American Conservative Magazine

Why, in one uproarious week of American politicking that not even H.L. Mencken would have expected, has the obscure governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, outraged roughly one half of the country and overjoyed the other?

What intrigues people about elections aren’t the platform planks. Deep down, political contests are about picking symbolic champions. Just as Barack Obama, recently of the Illinois legislature, has excited tens of millions by his emphasis on his bloodlines, by his implication that national racial reconciliation is “in my DNA,” the overstuffed life story of the caribou huntress and mother of five (and soon to be grandmother at age 44) embodies the oldest boast Americans have made about their homeland: the fecundity of the frontier.

The Neocons’ Palin Project

By Patrick J. Buchanan

Will the neocons who tutored George W. Bush in the ideology he pursued to the ruin of his presidency do the same for Sarah Palin?

Should they succeed, they will destroy her. Yet, they are moving even now to capture this princess of the right and hope of the party.

In St. Paul, Palin was told to cancel a meeting with Phyllis Schlafly and pro-life conservatives. McCain’s operatives said Palin had to rest for her Wednesday convention speech.

Sarah Palin, Neocon Pod Person

Did they hypnotize her, or was that unnecessary?
by Justin Raimondo – AntiWar.com

I have to laugh at the brouhaha Sarah Palin’s ascension to national prominence has stirred, especially the consternation in the Obama camp and the media (or do I repeat myself?). One can only imagine the spittle-flecked computer monitors of the anti-Palinistas – especially Andrew Sullivan, whose hatred of the caribou-shooting gal from up north has even surpassed his once-infamous hatred of the peace movement, which he habitually smeared as a “fifth column” secretly working on behalf of Osama bin Laden. I get to laugh, because, being a right-wing antiwar type, I don’t have a dog in this fight.

Palin Got Neoconned in Record Time

by Paul Mulshine – NJ.com

It’s a good thing Pat Buchanan’s not dead. He’d be rolling over in his grave.

At the Republican convention, Buchanan was taken in by the mass hysteria surrounding Sarah Palin. But even as he cheered, Pat inserted a caveat. He feared that Palin would be brainwashed by the nutty neoconservatives whom Buchanan has dedicated his recent life to debunking.

Sure enough. On Thursday we heard Palin telling Charlie Gibson that “perhaps” it might be a good idea to go to war with Russia over Georgia and the Ukraine.

Last Chance — For Life

By Patrick J. Buchanan

Near the end of a town hall meeting in Johnstown, Pa., a woman arose to offer a passionate plea to Barack Obama to “stop these abortions.”

Obama’s response was cool, direct, unequivocal.

“Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old. … I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”

“Punished with a baby.”

Obama sees an unwanted pregnancy as a cruel and punitive sanction for a teenager who has made a mistake, and abortion as the way out, the road to absolution and redemption.

The Haircut

Received this via email —

One day a florist goes to a barber for a haircut.

After the cut he asks about his bill and the barber replies, ‘I cannot accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.’

The florist is pleased and leaves the shop.

When the barber goes to open his shop the next morning there is a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, ‘I cannot accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.’

Palin Under Siege

By Joe Murray – The Bulletin

Budget cuts, book banning, and support for an Alaskan secessionist movement are among the most popular Internet rumors swirling around her head.

And while that does not include her reported association with Pat Buchanan and her alleged push to put creationism in the schools, it is clear Sarah Palin has received a political baptism by fire.

Though she catapulted onto the national stage just under two weeks ago, the Alaskan governor has come under siege, especially by bloggers and cable media outlets, with fiction quickly replacing fact.

VIDEO: Buchanan Stars on Rachel Maddow Show

Note from Linda: So let me get this straight. MSNBC fires Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann from their jobs as news anchors covering the 2008 presidential race because they are biased toward Obama. Then they give Rachel Maddow, the most left wing broadcaster on Air America Radio, her own show on MSNBC. And who is the star guest for her first show? Who else but Pat Buchanan. The only reason anyone tunes in to MSNBC is in hopes of catching a glimpse of Buchanan. Maddow gets a show? All I can say is we want Pat! As an aside, I don’t know if PJB even wants his own show. I do know the Neocons will come out in full force with a smear campaign against Pat [just as they did during his presidential runs] to prevent him from ever having another show on a major network.
