WebNote: Site Problems
Just a quick note to let you know why the site appears off-kilter. Three weeks ago we were hacked. Solved that problem, removed all the porn, and resumed as usual. Two weeks ago, we were hacked again and they loaded malicious code on our site. I re-wrote the site php code from the bottom up, had the bad code removed, and all was well for a few days.
Then the site went down again. More malicious code was put on the site. My hosting company insisted that I upgrade WordPress to 2.6 because it had all the security fixes. I still hesitated because there were many other flaws with 2.6, but went ahead and upgraded.
The last four days have been a nightmare. WordPress 2.6 made all our topics [categories], tags, and your comments disappear — years worth of great commentary from our members.
I tried upgrading again to 2.6.1 - the latest version which was supposed to fix many of the previous problems. I finally got the list of our topics back, but still we have no tags or any of your comments.
I contacted the developers at WordPress directly and they are working on this - but I fear our comments are lost forever.
The good thing about all of this is I was forced to re-write the php template code for Pat’s site. It is good clean code and XHTML compliant.
Also note I will begin opening up the comments section for all articles on this site — even Pat’s columns. I do have a few “bad word” filters set up so your comment might go into the “needs approval” pile. I will try to approve all comments asap.
That’s it for now.
For the Cause, Linda

for what it’s worth, when accessing the site using opera 7.5.1 the “wordpress administrator” screen appears, offering a button to proceed to the site.
I just spent 2 hours going through all the issues folks are complaining about with the latest version of WordPress [2.6+] http://wordpress.org/support/forum/3
This thing is loaded with bugs — But I’ll have to wait for 2.6.2 and hope some of the fixes will help.
Those of us who have done sysadmin chores in the past feel your pain, Linda. Best of luck fighting off the wordpress bugs and hackers– we’re rooting for you.
this can’t be right. I just registered and then logged in for the first time. Then I was taken to your administration page!

Please double check!!!
Here’s something that happened today. I was watching the TV, but please verify. I still cannot believe what a McCain (lady) spokesperson said.
I was watching an interview of a McCain spokesperson (at Tuesday 7:10 am MST), She was at the RNC convention. The interviewer suggested that McCain did not vet his VP selection since he only had talked with her 2 times, The spokes person, hold your hats, said that McCain had told her that the VP selection was his soul mate!!! strange but true.!!!!!
Thanks for the update. I was curious why I wasn’t able to access Mr. Buchanan’s articles.
As an avid Ron Paul/Bob Barr supporter, I am fervently convinced that the libertarian revolution will represent the next great sea change in American politics. My hope is that Mr. Buchanan’s intelligent and thoughtful articles will serve their intended purpose of educating that interested component of the populace upon whose task it will inevitably be to pick up the pieces of what will inevitably result from our shattered policies.
New Problem With Comments: Now WordPress 2.6.1 will not let me approved any comments held in “moderation.” — i.e. comments that may have more than one link; a “bad word”; or any oddball reason it is not automatically approved. I am forced to go directly into the database [scary territory] and manually “approve” your comments. Thus, if you don’t see your comment on the site right after you post it, please understand that it is probably due to this quirky version of WordPress — and that I will approve your comment eventually!
Sorry for this setback!
Linda, Thank you for your dedication, hard work and sometimes thankless that job you are doing. It is greatly Appreciated! Keep up the good work.
